George R. Styslinger, age 84, of Vestavia Hills, died peacefully on March 10, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 45 years, Mary. He is survived by 3 children: George Styslinger (wife, Micky) of Charleston, SC; Joseph Styslinger (wife, Tina) of Hoover, AL; and Mary Styslinger (husband, John Clothiaux) of Aiken, SC. George also leaves 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

George R. Styslinger, age 84, of Vestavia Hills, died peacefully on March 10, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 45 years, Mary. He is survived by 3 children: George Styslinger (wife, Micky) of Charleston, SC; Joseph Styslinger (wife, Tina) of Hoover, AL; and Mary Styslinger (husband, John Clothiaux) of Aiken, SC. George also leaves 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, George was 1 of 12 children. He attended Central Catholic High School, served in the Air Force, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in applied mathematics. He had a long career in informational technology, working for the steel industry and ushering in the computer age. He retired from Altec Industries as chief informational officer after more than 25 years of service. During retirement, he traveled throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, and less than 3 months ago, sailed the Caribbean. He attended many family reunions, weddings, and baptisms. He supported his wife during her battle with cancer.
George was a parishioner at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church for over 45 years. He was an avid bridge player and a world traveler. He was a hard-working man who valued family, friends, and adventure.
Calling hours will be held at St. Peter's, Hoover, AL, March 16, beginning with a brief prayer service at 6:00PM and continuing with visitation until 8:00PM. A funeral Mass will be held on March 17 at 8:00AM at St. Peter's. George will be buried with military honors on March 17, 2:00PM (EST), at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
