Lila Jean Hodges Fowler, of Vestavia Hills, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Fowler, III. Her parents Dr. Rayford Hodges and Jennie McGahey Hodges and her two brothers Dr. Durwood Hodges and Rayford Hodges. She is survived by her children Jean Hodges Fowler (Pete) Radecke of Birmingham and James Thomas Fowler IV of Scottsboro, Alabama and many nieces and nephews. Lila Jean Hodges Fowler, of Vestavia Hills, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Fowler, III. Her parents Dr. Rayford Hodges and Jennie McGahey Hodges and her two brothers Dr. Durwood Hodges and Rayford Hodges. She is survived by her children Jean Hodges Fowler (Pete) Radecke of Birmingham and James Thomas Fowler IV of Scottsboro, Alabama and many nieces and nephews. Jean was born on June 26, 1927 in Scottsboro, Alabama. She graduated from Jackson County High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. She then attended the University of Alabama where she met her husband Tom.
Jean was a life long Methodist. She was a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She was a former member of the Logos Sunday School Class, Chi Omega, Service Guild, Civiettes, The Antiquarian Society, Pastfinders, Coronets, Queens of Spades Garden Club and The Country Club of Birmingham and her beloved "Supper Club". She will be remembered for her strong spirit, contagious sense of humor and her love for family and friends.
The family would like to thank Jane Pounds for her loyal friendship over the years. Memorial gifts can be made to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity. A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery. A celebration of Jean's life will take place at 1 PM, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church with a reception following.
